Phineus and Ferb Live Tour #REVIEW

When I saw that Phineus and Ferb were coming to town I was so excited! When I came across an amazing blog, YeeWittleThings, and saw they were hosting a contest for free tickets I was even more excited. I crossed my fingers, toes, legs, eyes, and every other body part I could think of, with hopes that I would win the tickets! I am usually not a very lucky person. If I enter a contest I almost NEVER win! Just days before Christmas, I opened my gmail account and saw an email title "You won!" Holding my breath, I opened the email and saw that I had won tickets to the January 11th, 2013 Phineus and Ferb Live Tour at the Rogers Center! The best Christmas present EVER!

My sons (DS6 and DS4) love, love, love the show Phineus and Ferb. They watch it every opportunity they get! I love the show because its goodwholesome fun! Although there is a conflict between good (Perry, Phineus, Ferb and their friends) verse evil (Dr. Doofenshmirtz), there is minimal display of violence. I can relax knowning that I can leave them alone with this show and not worry that they would be subjected to something inappropriate situations. I love how positive the characters are and their ability to inspire my children's imagination.

This past Friday,  we embarked on our trip the Phineus and Ferb Live Tour. We decided to take the GO train as my boys have only ridden the train a few times in their life. They were so excited!

We got to the concert about 15 minutes early and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had a pre-show. The pre-show was great! They had a guy on stage revving the kids up for the show. He was playing songs from the TV show getting the kids to name the song and asking them trivia, like "What animal did Candice had in her pants?".  This was a great introduction! The kids were so excited I thought they were going to pass out before the show even began!

From the opening notes  "There's 104 days of summer vacation, And school comes along just to end it, So the annual problem for our generation, Is finding a good way to spend it" to the closing of the final curtain my kids were hooked! They were singing, they were dancing, and they were laughing. I loved how the beginning of the show started out on the film screen and they had the characters come to life physically by sliding down the slide. It really brought the TV show concept to life!

Its hard to see but Ferb just became 3D and the girls just about to!

The Live tour maintained the same characteristics of the show: the kids create some elaborate machine to make their summer day more exciting, Dr. Doofenshmirtz was out to control the world, Perry was there to stop him and Candace was constantly making googly eyes at Jeremy! My kids loved that they knew all the songs and could sing along with the performance. The performance wasn't very long (an hour and half with a 15 minute break), but I felt it was a good length for the age group it was targeted to. They were entertained and amused without becoming bored. The special effects were amazing! They had strobe lights, dry ice and a hundred different props and scene changes. Perry's entrance was definitely my favourite! His entrance included running through the audience, a dark theater only lit by six large flashlights and the typical dramatic music. It was very dramatic and spy like!

I was a little disappointed in costumes.  The characters that were in full costumes (Phineus, Ferb, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Perry) were great and exactly like the TV show.  The other characters (Candace, Jeremy, and the rest of the kids) were only in partial costumes.  The production company tried to give them bulging eyes like the TV show, but the effects came off as awkward and confusing. The performers were often out of sync in their complex dance moves and several times they dropped the prop they were dancing with.

Like any of the other Disney Live shows that you would see at the Rogers Center, the food and the souvenirs were way overpriced. That didn't stop us or the rest of the crowd from walking away with one or two. How could you walk away from this performance without a Perry of your own!

Overall, I thought it was a great show. The kids thanked me a million times for winning tickets and I want to give a big SHOUT OUT to YeeWittleThings for hosting the giveaway!

  1. Sounds cool! My girls aren't into Phineas and Ferb (but I might check it out for them!), but we had the opportunity to go to a live show of Huckle Cat (one of their favourite shows) and they LOVED that. I think it's a great way to introduce kids to theatre and to let their imaginations go beyond the TV. :) I would totally take them to more kid-friendly live shows like this. :)

  7. We have yet to see this show. My son has seen both Sesame Street and Backyardigans and they are brilliant with live music, dancing, singing and watching the kids engage with the characters is truly worth going to see one live! :)
